Winter in the New Forest
Winter is a fantastic time to walk in the Forest or by the coast. The stormy weather brings crashing seas and dramatic views. Why not wrap up warm and get out there and experience the wilder side of the National Park?
Winter wildlife is harder to spot but there is still plenty to see. The wet weather provides perfect conditions for the water loving plants of the wet heaths and mires. Bog plants such as bog moss and bog myrtle flourish. In the woodland coniferous trees like the Douglas fir remain green whilst the deciduous trees stand bare around them. Many species hibernate at this time of year including the great crested newt which remains dormant until the warmer weather comes in March.
